This course analyzes teaching and learning in social contexts stratified by genders and sexual orientations, as well as intersecting racial identities and socio-economic classes. Course curricula examine research on the impact of gendered and heteronormative privilege and oppression on students’ learning experiences, as well as educational interventions and strategies. Topics include social constructions of gender and gender stereotypes in schools, educational equity and outcomes, gendered bullying and harassment; and pedagogies, curricula, dispositions, and supports to improve education for students of all genders and sexual orientations.
